Clean and repair garden tools before storing for the winter. Storage for your bladed tools

such as pruners can be stored in a bucked filled with sand with a little vegitable oil. This

will keep them from rusting and will prevent more frequent sharpening.

Keep in mind Back 2 Green Gift Certificates are great Christmas presents. Contact us for details.

Colorful winter fruit is attractive to us as well as a wide variety of birds. Many clients specifically request plants, which will attract birds. Contact us for some suggestions for year round interest and an attractant to birds.

Avoid salt injury to your plants by salting only high-risk areas such as, stairs or slopes. Also avoid using just pure salt; instead mix about 5-25% salt with other abrasive materials such as sand.

To prevent root damage caused by freezing and thawing, mulch perennial beds with branches cut from your Christmas tree after the holidays.

The less hectic winter schedule permits Back 2 Green time to work on plans perhaps with a little more depth. Winter is a great time to meet with you at your site to develop a landscape plan. We will channel your needs and desires into reality, as well as explore new ideas. This allows you plenty of time to make decisions and to get on our schedule to be taken care of in an orderly fashion next spring.

Instead of cutting back all your perennials for winter, examine which one's have winter interest. Many perennials such as Autumn Joy sedum, coneflowers, and many others stand-up throughout the winter providing color, textures and bird interest. Ornamental grasses, stars of the autumn garden, add a lot of winter appeal as well.
